Chagas disease is a neglected tropical disease caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi and is endemic to Mexico, Central America, and South America. With global migration, clinicians in non-endemic settings face a growing need to recognize and treat Chagas disease. It is estimated that 288,000 individuals are living with Chagas disease in the United States, many of whom remain undiagnosed. Chagas disease is a lifelong condition if left untreated and a third of individuals will progress to cardiac involvement. Chagas cardiomyopathy is the most severe clinical manifestation of Chagas disease, responsible for the greatest burden of disease-related complications and mortality.
